Firebase Expert since 2013

I've been using the Firebase platform as an engineer and business owner since 2013. I've contributed to the community from the beginning, becoming one of the early Firebase Experts—a.k.a. the "Torches"—and later a Google Developer Expert after Google acquired Firebase in 2014.

Engineer

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from BYU in 2007. I thought I wanted to be a financial economist, but the world had other plans. I found my calling as a software engineer in 2010 and reimagined my entire career path.

My early experience with economic data modeling helped me transition from Excel to SQL and eventually to NoSQL with the Firebase Realtime Database.

I believe in the open web.

I write front- and back-end code in JavaScript using Node.js, Firebase (of course!) and React.

Founder

I founded Calligraphy.org in 2012 with my wife Melissa.

Melissa is an expert calligrapher and teacher, so we leveraged her skill set and brought her classes online. I wrote all of the code. Melissa created all of the content and taught the calligraphy.

Calligraphy.org will be around long after we're gone, spreading the joy of hand lettering and making the art form accessible to future generations.

Teacher

I'm based in Salt Lake City, Utah, but I've taught Firebase worldwide.

I've spoken on stage, presented to community meetups and run workshops for Firebase-curious developers.

I've published an extensive online course at FullStackFirebase.com with over 2.5 hours of tightly edited video available on Udemy
